Deputy President Ruto Buys His Way Into The Presidency with 30 Motorbikes

How much do 30 motorbikes cost in Kenya? I’ll tell you. With the price of one motorbike aka nduthi retailing at around Ksh. 150,000, the price for 30 of them would be around Ksh. 4.5 million give or take. This should be approximately how much Deputy President Ruto used when he donated 30 motorbikes to youth in Turkana county as a campaign tactic for the much awaited 2022 presidential race.

The pictures of this donation which trended this morning on twitter explained that this move made by the DP was in a bid to empower young people to start businesses by boosting their capital base for them to increase their profits. The youth that benefited from this donation belonged to the Lodwar and Kanamkemer youth groups of Turkana.

DP Ruto and the youth with the motorbikes

Deputy President Ruto has sparked quite a conversation among citizens. While some people applaud him and the efforts he is making with youth empowerment, many people simply feel like he directed his efforts in the wrong direction seeing that Turkana has bigger problems that need his intervention as vice president.

Quite recently, Aden Duale who is the Majority Leader in the National Assembly told the media that he would rather quit politics than work in an administration ran by a President Ruto. This only shows that while the DP still has great support from his country people and majority party members, there is a powerful mass of politicians and Kenyan citizens who will not sell their votes for a mere 30 motorbikes. Maybe 300 or 3000 would have done the trick.
