Ibrahim el-Zakzaky Returns Home Today
Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, the leader of the Shiite Muslim group returns to Nigeria today. He was flown this week to India after years of incarceration by the Buhari government.
His early return is based on confusion surrounding his treatment at a health facility in India. The group wants the personal doctors of the revered cleric to be part of the treatment much to the chagrin of his Indian hosts and the Nigerian government.
Ibrahim el-Zakzaky heads the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, a Shiite group which was banned late last month. Prior to that, the group had clashed several times with the military over his incarceration culminating in hundreds of deaths on their side and a few from the military side.
