No Political Party Owns Free SHS- Kwesi Pratt

He said it is an undeniable fact that in the 2000 elections, the first political party to indicate their intention to implement the Free SHS policy was the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

In the wake of recent controversy surrounding the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy in Ghana, senior journalist and managing editor at the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has said that no political party should claim ownership of the policy.

He explains that the Free SHS policy is a constitutional mandate. He said this on Krokoo– a radio political discussion show hosted by Kwami Sefa Kai.

According to him, since 1992 when Ghana became a democracy he doesn’t believe any political party can say they own the Free SHS policy.

He said it is an undeniable fact that in the 2000 elections, the first political party to indicate their intention to implement the Free SHS policy was the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

“Free SHS was also one of the cardinal promises that Dr. Papa Kwasi Nduom made when he formed his Progressive People’s Party (PPP). In fact, it was the PPP that began to show how they were going to finance the policy”, Kwesi Pratt added.

“The controversy in the last election was whether to do the Free SHS policy progressively free and how it was going to financed”, he concluded.
