We Don’t Allow Children In Parliament – Kwale Woman Rep Zulekha Hassan learns The Hard Way

Drama erupted inside the National Assembly on a bright Wednesday morning last week when Kwale woman rep walked into parliament accompanied by her wee baby of five months.

When asked how she managed to sneak a baby into parliament, she admitted to having used the back entrance of the building where she went unnoticed by security who was slacking on the job. Among the standard parliament orders is the rule that no strangers can access the chambers. This means that however small, her five-month-old baby constitutes as a stranger.

The member of parliament defended herself by claiming that she learnt on short notice of her nanny’s availability but did not want to bail on her parliamentary duties . When talking to the press, she said “I told myself this is enough. Why should i miss work just because I have a baby?”
