BBNaija In Trouble As Federal Government Files Complaint To NBC

Big Brother Nigeria, is a Nigerian reality competition television series, based on the Big Brother television franchise, in which a number of housemates (contestants) live in an isolated house and compete for a large cash prize.

In a post on Linda Ikeji’s Blog, the live sex on BBnaija has gotten the Federal Government talking as it has lodged a complaint with the National Broadcasting Commission(NBC).

The sexual content shown live on the reality show has led the Federal Government to make plans of launching a new Big Brother Nigeria reality show where only Nigerian food, dress or culture will be showcased. This was disclosed when Otunba Segun Runsewe, the National Council for Arts and Culture Director-General was paid a visit by the President of the National Council of Women Societies, Dr. Gloria Shoda.

  It is also expected that the NCAC will represent the 2008 Nudity Bill titled ‘A Bill for an Act to punish and prohibit nudity, sexual intimidation and other-related offenses in Nigeria,’ sponsored by the former chairperson, Senate Committee on Women and Youth, Eme Ekaette.

 “I will take up the issue of Big Brother Naija, I have spoken with officials of the National Broadcasting Commission because what is going on now is terrible. Having love affairs on screen is not part of our own culture at all’, Otunba Segun mentioned.

The NCWS President expressed her concern about how the sexual content impact negatively on Nigerian youth and asked if the housemates cannot abstain from sex for three months. She continued ‘ I’m condemning the sex content on BBN.”
