Following the indictment of 80 individuals, mainly Nigerians, by a Los Angeles court, a press statement has been released by the Nigerians In Diaspora Commission.

It states that the Commission is deeply concerned about the news of the arrest of the 80 suspects. They also claim to acknowledge the fact that accusation does not mean guilty, and that the accused should be given free and fair trial.

The Commission claims that while this indictment has brought a negative effect on the image of Nigeria, this doesn’t mean that the whole of the country is guilty; reiterating that the actions of a few Nigerians involved in fraudulent activities can never be what Nigeria represents. They further advised that all stereotyping against their country should cease.
