Second Batch Of 319 Nigerians Leave South Africa After Xenophobic Attacks – Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Confirms

The recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa led to 640 Nigerians signing up to take flights back home. Last week, the first batch consisting of 189 Nigerians landed in Lagos amidst much jubilation.

Today, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in South Africa, Mr. Kimiebi Ebenfa, has confirmed that the next batch of ” willing Nigerian returnees” has safely departed from Johanessburg. Confirming the departure to The Punch via Whatsapp, Mr. Ebenfa wrote,

“We wish to inform you that the second batch of about 319 willing Nigerian returnees from South Africa has departed O. R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa, today (Wednesday) at 14h:58 local time.

The returnees, who were airlifted by Air Peace Airline, are expected to arrive Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, today at about 18h:58 local time.”

It is reported that a total number of 817 Nigerians are still awaiting evacuation.
