Delegates are individuals within political parties who have the mandate to elect people who will occupy political offices in the name of the party. Because of this, they have special ‘powers’ during election seasons.
In fact there are allegations that some politicians who contest for such political offices have had to bribe these delegates and even do their wishes for them just to secure their vote.

But as it turns out often, the delegates take the monies and offers and still disappoint them. It seems such is the story of the District Chief Executive of Pusiga, Abdulai Zubeiru.
Abdulai Zubeiru had to be rushed to the Akunye Hospital in Pusiga on Saturday, September 28 after he fainted immediately he was declared loser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary in the Pusiga Constituency.

Mr Zubeiru polled 197 votes, just seven votes short of winner Abdul Karim Dubure’s. Per the results, Mr Dubure was declared the winner of Pusiga Constituency.
The DCE is said to have harboured high hopes of winning Saturday’s primaries. But his hopes were dashed after his closest contender polled 204 votes of the total valid votes cast.
He is said to be responding to treatment at the hospital.
