The holidays are here with us and as always, most people are going on beach vacations. At the very least, several people will find themselves in a pool before January starts.

With a beach vacay in mind, bikini wax centers will be packed. All women want to rock their bikinis and one pieces void of the hair that grows where the sun never shines.

Well, here’s a couple of things you need to know or be reminded as you book that bikini wax appointment. First of all, removing pubic hair increases chances of infections such as bacterial vaginosis and urinary tract infections.

Secondly, your hair follicles may get infected- a condition known as folliculitis. Furthermore, no hair makes one susceptible to STI’s that are passed on through skin-to-skin contact. Such STI’s include HPV and genital herpes.

Other less scary side effects of waxing include getting ingrown hairs and scarring. Bottom line is, waxing can have serious side effects and thus the decision should be reconsidered.

If you must get that bikini wax, keep a few things in mind. Make sure you go to a super clean facility for the appointment and make sure the facility uses hard wax. Hard wax is much gentler than strip or speed wax.

Lastly, keep an eye out for infection and see a doctor if things don’t look right down there post waxing. Alternatively, carry antibiotic cream with you in case you see redness, start itching or feel a burning sensation. Happy holidays!
