“Nigeria Should Bow Down Its Head In Shame For Banning Gay Marriages” – Journalist Kiki Mordi

BBC Africa journalist Kiki Mordi who rose to limelight with her ‘Sex for Grades’ documentary, has bemoaned the fact that same sex marriage is still a crime in Nigeria.

The law which was passed in 2014 by former president Goodluck Jonathan, banned all forms of gay connections or marriage. The law places a 14-year jail term for any offender. Notwithstanding, several LGBT activists like Bisi Alimi, are still on the march to petition the bill.

According to Kiki Mordi on Twitter, Nigerians are on the wrong side of history for banning same-sex marriages.

“It’s almost 2020 & same sex marriage is still illegal in Nigeria. Like two people (of the same sex) can love themselves and want to build a family for themselves just like you & I but can’t because it’s illegal for them.

A damn shame! We’re already on the wrong side of history.”
