A 13-year-old girl in Nyalenda slums, Kisumu county has been placed under suicide watch. This was after her parents found a suicide note that she had written.

The girl who studied at Xaveran Primary school scored 391 marks in the recently released KCPE examination. Subsequently, she received a calling letter from the renown Asumbi Girls. She was expected to join the high school in January.


The student comes from a humble background. Upon realizing that her parents could not afford the Ksh 53,544 that is required for first term, she went ahead and wrote a suicide letter.

“I know it is the only way to solve this problem, but it is the best option for me to take,” read the suicide note. The mother of the child, a Lucy Emily Ombok told the press that her daughter had appeared troubled for a while.

The family is now pleading for help from well-wishers to enable her to go to school. Akothee already expressed interest in helping the family through her foundation, Akothee Foundation. On her Instagram, she asked for the details of the girl and the family.
