Spotify on Friday announced that they will stop running political ads from next year. The company claimed that the change is because it does not have the ability to validate political ads responsibly.

From 2020, Spotify will no longer accept political ads in its ad-supported tier for music streaming . It will also remove the ads in its original and exclusive podcasts.

The policy only affects the U.S since that is the only market that sells political ads. In the past, the Republican National Committee and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders advertised on Spotify.

”At this point in time, we do not yet have the necessary level of robustness in our processes, systems and tools to responsibly validate and review this content. We will reassess this decision as we continue to evolve our capabilities,” a Spotify spokesperson told CNN Business.
