Review: Ghana Premier League Kickstarts With Match Day 1: Hearts Loses At Home

Ghana was a football loving country until Anas Aremeyaw Anas shook the whole the country with his investigative documentary piece dubbed #Number12 which shook the popular sporting discipline. The Anas exposé which featured top politicians, referees, officials from the Ghana Sports Authority and the Ghana Football Association led to the halt of the Glo Premier.

The Ghana Premier League returns unto our screens again as we saw some mighty teams falling to some lower clubs which is sadly the ugly side of the game.


In Accra, Accra Hearts of Oak lost to Berekum Chelsea in their first home league encounter with the hawks from Berekum. An early goal which was scored by Berekum Chelsea’s Jona Attuguaye became the only goal that separated the two sides.

Elsewhere in Kumasi, the Kumasi based Kumasi Asante Kotoko had a slim margin win over their counterparts from Techiman, Techiman Eleven Wonders. A goal which was scored in the early minutes of the game by Justice Blay was a reliever for the Porcupine Warriors.

Aduana Stars’ Yahaya Mohammed had a sensational hat-trick which gave the home supporters a good start for the league in a comfortable 4-0 win over Inter Allies on Sunday in their Ghana Premier League opener.

At the Nana Gyeabour’s Park, Bechem united has a 2-0 win over Elmina Sharks. Kwadwo Asamoah scored a goal as the referee was making a move just to end the first half of the game. Kwabena Yeboah increased the tally to 2 in the second half of the game.
