Kenyan Gambler Jumps Off a Building and Dies After Betting and Losing Ksh 15 Million

Gambling is definitely not for the faint at heart. A 40 year old man took his own life after betting and losing. The man allegedly lost a whopping KSh 15 million at a casino in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
The victim Richard Wangai committed suicide on Monday, January 6, at around 5pm. He died approximately two hours after losing the outstanding amount staked.
The late Richard was at Adlife plaza in Yaya Centre where he climbed to the top of the tower and threw himself from the building.
“The man who has killed himself by jumping off Adlife Plaza this evening identified as 40-year-old Richard Wangai, a gambler. Wangai lost KSh 15 million at a casino in Kilimani before deciding to throw himself from the top floor of the business complex,” Kilimani police told reporters.
Further investigations done on the case revealed that the gambler was found in possession of toxic drugs. Investigators suspect that the victim might have tried killing himself silently before deciding to throw himself from the tower.
This is not the first case of suicide over gambling gone wrong. In 2016, a university student committed in Migori committed suicide after losing KSh 80,000 staked in football bets. The money was given to him by his parents to pay school fees.
