The economic situation in Kenya seems to be worse than we can imagine. Parents especially are willing to do anything to fend for their families.

A middle aged woman from Siaya decided to try and sell her blood and that of her daughter’s; all in a bid to get money to enroll the 14 year old in high school.

The mother Rose Akinyi Odhiambo and her daughter Agnes Akoth camped at Siaya County Referral Hospital with hopes that someone, anyone would buy their blood.

Their attempt did not bear any fruits. They were informed by hospital management that blood cannot be bought at a fee but only donated for free.

The daughter Agnes performed very well in last year’s exams scoring 380 marks. She was called to Ng’iya Girls’ High school.

However, her money could not afford the form 1 first term fees which stand at Sh. 28,000.

The mother-daughter duo told the media that they had visited countless offices after the release of KCPE exams with hopes to be funded by well wishers. They were not successful.

At the moment, the family has just found one well-wisher who has vowed to pay the girl’s first term fees. Her academic future however is still not secure.

The family is currently pleading to well wishers to help out with the girl’s fees for at least the first academic year.

The current situation in the country is very tragic. There have been several cases of teens committing suicide over lack of fees to join high schools. When did life get so hard?
