VIDEO: Another Separatist Movement Emerges To Declare Independence For Greater Accra Region From Ghana

For some strange reason, Ghana has been grappling with one secessionists group since last year who are seeking to declare independence for the Volta Region- and rename it Western Togoland.

The country is treating the actions of the members of this group as a threat to national security and have effected the arrest of some persons said to be connected to the group.

While the issue surrounding the Western Togoland secessionist group is yet to be over, another group has emerged seeking to separate the Greater Accra Region from the country and declare it an independent nation.

In the video below, the leader of the group who identified himself Jentse Nii Ogblesisabi I, said their organization is called Ga Independence Movement otherwise known as Ga Era Movement.

Stating the mission of the group, he said: “This independence movement is fighting to separate the Greater Accra Region from Ghana.”

He explained that: “We are fighting to have a nation of our own where we decide our destiny. We cannot put our destiny in the hands of foreigners.

“Our language is dying. Our land is being taken over. Our way of life is disappearing.”

The leader continued that “we won’t agree [speaking in Ga- a local language]. We say no. We don’t want in five years time, for our language Ga to disappear from the languages of Ghana or the world- it’s happening.”

“So this separation from Ghana, we’re going to safeguard our language, our land and our way of life.

Having stated their mission, he further stated that: “So I, Jentse Nii Ogblesisabi I, I’m the leader [of this group] and I’m not afraid of nobody.”

And being cognizant of the consequence of his declaration of independence for the Greater Accra Region, he went on to say that: “You can arrest me if you want. You can kill me if you want. I’m here saying this.”

He directed his message to those he wish for them to hear, as follows: “This is to you Akufo-Addo [Ghana’s president] and this to you Osei Tutu (sic) or whatever his name- Asantehene- tell your people.”
