Chinese Duo Arrested After Attempting To Pay Bribes To Nigerian Anti-Corruption Agency

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two Chinese nationals for offering bribes to its officers in Sokoto State, north-western Nigeria.

Menu Wei Kun and Xu Kuio of China Zhounghao Nigeria Limited,a construction company were arrested after trying to give the officers bribe while being investigated for fraud and money laundering.

The two had made a series of discussions with the head of the unit, Abdullahi Lawal and promised him ₦ 100m if his outfit abandoned the inquest.

The EFCC boss feigned interest and led the Chinese on with a promise to stop the investigation. He was later contacted to come for the money.

His team arrested the culprits while in the process of handing out the money. When it was counted, the amount was ₦50m and laptops with smart phones were retrieved as part of the package.

The Chinese company is under investigation for fraud after a contract worth more than $ 120m was not executed with the money diverted.

The duo will be arraigned before court and charged with bribery and corruption.
