South Sudan’s Vice President And Wife Test Positive For Coronavirus

The vice president of the Republic of South Sudan, Riek Machar Teny has confirmed in a news report that he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

His wife, Angelina Jany Teny, who serves as the country’s Defence minister has also tested positive alongside several of their backroom staff.

The couple added that they would be in said he would be on self-isolation for 14 days at his residence together with the rest of his staff who tested positive for the disease. 

The east-central African country remains one of the least- hit by the virus. It has so far recorded 290 coronavirus cases with four deaths and four recoveries.

Last week two people tested positive of the coronavirus disease in a refugee camp just outside the capital, Juba. This led to strong fears among humanitarian workers of the disease spreading beyond control.
