Gambia Declares Football Season Null And Void

This year’s football season in Gambia has been declared null and void by the football administration of the country.

In a letter made public, the Gambia Football Federation admitted the league’s continuation is not feasible.


It explained that the extension of the lockdown triggered by the coronavirus pandemic means the season must be truncated.

It added that the top two teams in the league will represent the country in continental tournaments.

The letter also promised a financial package to football clubs to cushion them during the coronavirus pandemic.

It will also use this period to improve on the football parks in the country. It extended its appreciation to all the clubs.

No team would be declared the winner or the loser. Thus there will be no relegation or promotion of teams between the leagues.

First-placed team Real de Banjul FC will represent Gambia at the CAF Champions League while second-placed Gambia Armed Forces FC will go to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The west African country has recorded one of the least numbers in coronavirus cases. Total infections stands at 24 with 13 people of that number discharged.

Active cases in the country stands at 10 witu only 1 person confirmed to have died from the disease.
