State Governor Calls For Nationwide Lockdown As Nigeria’s COVID-19 Cases Nears 7000

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has suggested to the federal government to consider imposing a nationwide lockdown on Nigeria to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus.

As per new reports released by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the country now has 6.677 confirmed cases of the virus with 200 deaths and 1,840 discharged patients.

Mr Umahi, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that during the lockdown, confirmed cases of the virus was trickling but since the lockdown was relaxed, cases have surged.

“I want to commend Mr. President in the manner and wisdom he is handling this pandemic.”

“You see, when the lockdown was there the cases were trickling in but when the lockdown was relaxed, the cases are coming in surprising manner.

“I expect another serious lockdown if the cases continue to increase like this and this will be by consensus agreement of the general public. We have to lockdown to defeat this monster that is called COVID-19”.

Ebonyi, has 13 out of the 6,677 positive cases recorded in their state.
