Donald Trump has been accused worldwide of downplaying the Coronavirus pandemic in the United States until the disease got out of control. Brazil’s resident, Jair Bolsonaro has also been vilified for his handling of the case.

Brazil has had two health ministers within a month after the first one was sacked and the second one tendered his resignation few weeks on the job. The country’s far-right leader wants to open up the country’s economy to the chagrin of state governors.

Chimamanda pointed out that Brazil and United States now have high numbers of cases in the world with Russia been the only country separating the two. Combined coronavirus deaths between both countries currently is almost 120,000.

She blamed this on the leaders of both countries, writing:

“Both countries have populist ‘leaders’ full of a vacuous braggadocio that would be funny if it didn’t have life and death consequences for so many. Their irresponsibility costs lives. Their fragile, brittle egos cost lives. Real leadership matters. Love to the people of Brazil.”
