Landlord Shoots Tenant Dead For Refusing Eviction

A landlord based in Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region has been arrested by the Achimota police for allegedly shooting his tenant to death.

Victor Stephen Kankam, 38, is reported to have stormed his residence to try and forcibly evict his tenant, Benjamin Otchere, 31 and take back his room.

It ended in a scuffle with the deceased asking for more time to relocate to a new place since he cannot move out under such a short notice.

During the argument, the accused who had carried a rifle and was wearing a bullet-proof vest aimed the gun at his tenant. He shot him at close range and the deceased fell to the ground.

An eyewitness who happens to be the deceased’s friend was also threatened with the gun and thus flee out of the room for his dear life.

The victim was declared dead after being sent to the hospital. A complaint was later made to the police and the landlord was arrested and put behind bars.

In his statement to the police, Victor Stephen Kankam argued that he shot the deceased in self-defence as he felt threatened by him.

The police has began investigation into the unfortunate incident and would be arraigning the suspect before court on a charge of murder.
