Police Chief Arrested For Leading Gang To Rob A Gold Dealer

The Ghana Police has arrested a senior officer who led a group of a junior-ranked policeman and a civilian to rob a gold dealer in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.

The officer, Godwin Mensah who is part of the government’s anti-illegal mining force at Obuasi was arrested while his accomplices managed to escape.

The police in Obuasi explained that the two officers dressed in their police uniform and armed with rifles stormed the office of the gold dealer on the outskirts of Obuasi.

They accused him of trading in gold without the required authorisation and proceeded to arrest him. They seized an amount of GH₵10,000 from him.

They subsequently forced him into the taxi and headed to the Obuasi township. A distress call by the victim’s wife to the police led to them to intercept the car.

The two suspects managed to abscond leaving only the senior police officer to be arrested. An amount of GH₵5,800 was retrieved from him.

The police also added that the officer will be arraigned before a court after investigations are concluded. Efforts are also been made to arrest his accomplices.
