Lawyers Demand Arrest Of D’banj After His Accuser Made Police Complaint

Seyitan Tayo accuses D’banj of raping her

The troubles of popular Nigerian music star, D’banj seems far from over. His curent predicament started after a lady, Seyitan Babatayo accused him of raping her in 2018 during a party he organised.

The Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates, COPA, has called for the arrest of the musician whose real name is Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo.

The “The Fall In Love” crooner debunked the serious allegation against him amd demanded an apology fro6l his accuser or she risked being slapped with a 100 million naira lawsuit.

The lady at the centre of the whole allegation made a formal report this week. Seyitan Babatayo also revealed that she was detained and harassed by the police ostensibly on the orders of D’banj management.

This has thus triggered this group of lawyers to demand the arrest of the alleged rapist. The lady’s announcement of being intimidated on social media also pushed Nigerians to call for the musician to be defrocked from his United Nations ambassadorial role.

Patrick Odey, the director of Human Rights and Gender, at COPA in a statement released to the media urged the police to allay the fears of ordinary Nigerians in its handling of rape matters in the country by arresting the popular musician.

“We welcome the forthright and timely intervention of the Inspector General of Police, who has since ordered a comprehensive investigation into this matter. This directive is timely given the individuals involved and the peculiarity of the issues therein, as well as the ugly times we live in as a nation where incidences of rape and other gender-based crimes are rampant”
