D’banj Sues Lady Who Accused Him Of Rape For A Whopping 1.5 Billion Naira

Award-winning Nigerian musician, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, known by his stage name, D’banj has sued Seyitan Babatayo, the lady at the centre of his ongoing rape controversy.

The singer is requesting the court to grant his reliefs which includes a billion naira for general damages and an additional 500 million naira for punitive damages.

The whole controversy began after Seyitan Babatayo went on social media in early June to call out D’banj for raping her in a hotel room after a party two years ago.

The allegation spiralled into many more controversies as there were several posts from both camps with the singer debunking the rape allegation against him.

Court papers available to AfricaCelebrities.com showed how serious the “Fall in Love” crooner is to have his dented image restored.

The suit read in part:

An order directing the defendant to pay the claimant, the sum of N 1,000,000,000.00 (One Billion Naira) only, representing general damages over the untold embarrassment, derision, public ridicule, odium, oloquy, marital disharmony, mental agony and psychological trauma which the defendant’s tweets and publication have caused the claimant.”

The fallout of the allegation has seen several outcomes against the musician. The Nigerian police boss, Mohammed Adamu has ordered his men to probe allegations of unlawful arrest and detention of Seyitan Babatayo.

A group of human right lawyers have also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the music icon.
