Ghana’s Chief Justice In Isolation Over Coronavirus

The Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, has began a 14-day mandatory isolation on the advice of his doctors, a statement from his office has confirmed.

This was after he came into contact with some people who have since tested positive for the coronavirus. Thus, his isolation is in tandem with the safety protocols of the coronavirus disease.

In a communique signed by Cynthia Pamela Addo, Judicial secretary added that the 67 year-old chief justice will be working from his official residence at Cantonment, Accra.

The Supreme Court of Ghana had earlier postponed all cases pending this week for hearing after it came to light that several judges in the country have tested positive for the disease.

The past few weeks have seen a surge in reported cases of the coronavirus disease among top political and government personalities. Some doctors and other health workers have also succumbed to the disease as Ghana grapples to control its spread.

Currently, Ghana has a confirmed case of almost 22,000 with active cases now pegged at 4,683. The death toll is 129. Ghana places fourth in Africa as the hardest-hit countries only surpassed by South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria.
