Seven Things You Should Know About Olu Jacobs As He Turns 78
Veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs needs no introduction. For the past four decades, the movie icon has been beaming our lives with great stories. Today marks his 78th birthday and AfricaCelebrities.com brings you seven facts you should know about him.
1. Olu Jacobs, whose full name is Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs belongs to the Yoruba tribe which inhabit south-western Nigeria. He was born and also comes from Abeokuta, in Ogun State of Nigeria.
2. He grew up in Kano, north-western Nigeria where he attended the Holy Trinity School. He subsequently relocated to London, United Kingdom to further his eduction at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
3. He has starred in over two hundred movies with some stints in British and American productions during his nascent acting career. His Nollywood movies exceeds 180.
4. He got married to his 59 year old wife who is also an actress, Joke Silva some 31 years ago. They met during a programme to mark Nigeria’s 21st independence anniversary in 1981 and got married eight years later. They share two children, Olusoji and Olugbenga
5. His parents had wanted him to pursue a career in law but his passion for acting rendered that dream futile. He switched to an acting school when he was sent to London to further his education.
6. He has reduced his presence on the acting sphere as his age would not allow him to grace the screens like he used to do. At 78, Olu Jacobs thinks it is time to quit acting. Unfortunately none of his two boys wants to carry on the legacy as they are both interested in other stuffs.
7. Olu Jacobs has bagged so many awards that a single post would not contain it. Prominent among them is Lifetime Achievement award bestowed on him by Africa Movie Academy in 2017.
