Trader Jailed Three Years For Baby Theft

A 22 year old woman will be spending the next three years in prison after she was found guilty of stealing her coleague’s five-month old baby and absconding to Kasoa to elude arrest.

The convict, Naa Ayeley Armah had initially pleaded not guilty and the trial went into full session. At the end of it, she was found guilty of the offence. She pleaded with the court judge to show leniency as she was a first-time offender.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Judith Asante explained that the complainant who is also the baby’s mother became acquainted to the convict since they both traded in second-hand clothes at Kantamnto, a business hub in Accra.

She continued that on the 14th of June around 5 o’clock in the evening, the complainant left her five months baby in the care of Naa Ayeley to attend to an emergency.

The complainant return to meet the convict’s absence and all efforts to find her proved futile. A report was made to the police and they began investigations to apprehend her.

A little over a week later the complainant had a call from her friend who informed her of spotting the baby thief in her area. Some police officers were dispatched to the place to arrest Naa Ayele Armah.

The baby has since been reconciled with her distraught mother.
