CORONAVIRUS – Global Tally Surpasses 16 Million Cases

New data released by the World Health Organisation indicates that over 16 million people have now been confirmed to have contracted the deadly coronavirus disease. The death toll is also nearing 650,000. Out of this almost 10 million have recovered.

The current total number of confirmed cases is 16,207,130. The death toll is pegged at 648,513. The recovered cases is 9,916,266 leaving in a 5,642,351 active cases.

The United States tops the global chart with almost a quarter of the global deaths and infections. This is followed by Brazil, India, Russia.

South Africa takes up the fifth position with 434,200 cases and 6,655 deaths, the largest on the African continent.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has brought the global economy to a stagnation since it began spreading to other parts of the world in early February. This disease was first discovered in Wuhan, China.
