Former Angolan Presidents’ Son Jailed 5 Years For $500 Million Fraud
Jose Filomeno dos Santos, son of ex Angola president, has been jailed for 5 years by the Supreme Court over a $500 million fraud.

He was accused of trying to embezzle up to $1.5bn (£1.1bn) from the national sovereign wealth fund while overseeing the $5bn fund from 2013 to 2018.
Jose Filomeno was charged with stealing $500m from the fund and transferring it to a bank in Switzerland.

He earlier spent seven months in jail over the corruption allegation but was freed in March.
“For the crime of fraud … and for the crime of peddling influence … the legal cumulus condemns him to a single sentence of five years in prison,” judge Joao da Cruz Pitra said on Friday.
Dos Santos’ father, José Eduardo dos Santos, led the country for 38 years serving from 1979 until his resignation in 2017.
