Nigerian Musician Sentenced To Death For Blasphemy Appeals The Ruling

You would recall that, on the 10th of August, 2020, a young Nigerian musician, Yahaya Sherif-Aminu was found guilty of blasphemy by the Upper Shari’ah Court in Kano and was given a death sentence by hanging.

The court gave him a thirty days grace period where he could appeal the death sentence within the said period.

Multiple reports have it that, the counsel for the musician has filed an appeal at the Kano State High Court on Thursday, September 3. Kola Alanipini, according to TheCable, is the one leading the legal battle for the embattled musician.

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje had earlier stated that, his office has accepted the death sentence and he wouldn’t hesitate to sign the documents for the musician’s execution.

Yahaya Sherif-Aminu was found guilty of blasphemy after he recorded a song that reportedly praised a certain Imam and put him above the Arabian prophet of Islam, Prophet Mohammed.
