United States’ President Donald Trump has tested positive for the coronavirus disease. The news was released by the president on his official Twitter handle.

Donald Trump also revealed that his wife, Melania has also been infected with the disease which has so far killed more than 200,000 Americans.

The tweet added that the first couple will begin their quarantine process immediately.

Many Americans have expressed mixed feelings about the news with some jubilating over what they said was the President Trump’s poor handling of the pandemic.

The United States currently takes a quarter of the global tally of the pandemic deaths and infections.

Political pundits have also weighed in on the president’s political fortunes as he seeks re-election in early November.

Some have also doubted the authenticity of the news. They argue that the 45th American president is running away from the two remaining debates slated for October 15th in Florida and October 22 in Tennesee.

Donald Trump is seeking a second term at the American presidency. He will be facing Joe Biden, the vice president to his predecessor Barack Obama.
