Ghanaian Member Of Parliament Shot Dead By Unknown Gunmen

Member of Parliament for The Mfantseman Constituency in Ghana, Ekow Quansah Hayford, has been reportedly shot dead by unknown assailants.

The 49-year-old lawmaker was gunned down while returning from a political campaign tour on the Nkusukum Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze road in the Central Region at about 1am on Friday, October 9, 2020, reports say.

Confirming the incident to the press, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Owoahene Acheampong of the Mankessin Divisional Police Command said information and investigation were still ongoing on the case.

Eyewitness reports told local newspapers that the suspects stopped the lawmaker’s vehicle but his driver tried to escape resulting in him getting shot first.

He lost control of the wheels and the robbers ordered them out of the vehicle. It is said the MP was shot after they asked which of them was Ekow Kwansah.

The deceased MP had filed his nomination for re-election Thursday [October 8, 2020] and met with the Central Regional executives of the NPP before he set off on the campaign trip.

The eyewitness said he heard two gunshots.
