Members Of The Disbanded SARS Officers Will Not Be In The New SWAT Team – Police Assures

The Nigerian Police Force has released the criteria they will follow to recruit members into the new tactical unit, SWAT and has assured that members of the disbanded SARS unit will not be qualified for selection.

The police announced on Sunday that, they have disbanded the SARS unit of the police department following a nationwide protest against them.

The SARS team was replaced by a new tactical unit call, SWAT.

This new development didn’t sit well with the Nigerian citizens as the hashtag, #EndSWATNow went viral.

The citizens feared that, the new unit will just be a change of name and nothing else.

The police has however, dismissed those fears as they have come out with the criteria for the selection of officers into the SWAT unit.

The police hierarchy assured the citizens that officers of the disbanded SARS unit are not qualified to be inducted into the SWAT unit.

The statement added: “All personnel will as a critical pre-requisite undergo and pass medical examination, psychometry and toxicological screening for drug of abuse which will be conducted by the Police Medical Services during training and those found to be unsuitable shall be discharged”.
