“We Strongly Oppose Oppression, Brutality And Intimidation” – Google Says As It Throws Support For #EndSARS Protest

The protest against SARS and Police brutalities in Nigeria continue to dominate the headlines as the protest enters its second week.

The youths accused the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the police force of killings, harassment and extortions and demand that the unit be scrapped.

The government yielded to their demands and announced that they have ended SARS on Sunday. The Inspector General of police, Mohammed Adamu, later announced that SARS has been replaced with SWAT.

The citizens launched a fresh protest against the new unit and vowed never to allow it see the day’s light.

American tech firm, Google has also thrown their support for the movement. They revealed in a tweet that, they don’t condone oppression, brutality and intimidation.

The tweet reads: “We strongly oppose oppression, brutality & intimidation. We believe a fair and impartial police force is a critical element of a stable society, & that abuse of power infringes on people’s democratic & human rights. We urge a speedy resolution to the current situation. #EndsSARS.”
