CNN Rejects Invitation To Appear Before The Judicial Panel

The Cable News Network Inc, CNN has declined invitation to appear before the Lagos judicial panel that is looking into the Lekki toll gate excesses.

The American media house conducted an investigation into the shooting incident that happened at the Lekki toll gate and concluded that soldiers actually shot live bullets at protesters.

Their investigations also found out the origin of those bullets that were used to shoot the protesters.

Nigerian government didn’t take it lightly after they premiered their investigative piece.

They were subsequently invited to appear before the judicial panel to prove their findings.

Through their lawyer, they have declined the invitation saying that they don’t operate within Nigeria and the panel has no right to summon them.

Their letter reads in parts; “Since the Objectors are not “persons in Nigeria” as envisaged by the provision of section 5(c) (of Tribunals Of Inquiry Law Of Lagos State, Cap. T6), then this Honourable Tribunal is, with respect, bereft of territorial jurisdiction to compel their attendance to give evidence before it.”
