The death toll of the coronavirus disease in Ghana has surpassed hundred as eight lives were lost in the latest announcement by the Ghana Health Service.

Total confirmed cases has also risen to 15,834 after 361 new cases were recorded. Most deaths were caused by underlying health conditions including overseas diabetes, liver disease, heart conditions and hypertension.

However the two youngest deceased persons were confirmed to have had no underlying conditions.

Ashanti Region got the highest share of deaths in the latest chart as it recorded four with the Eastern and Northern regions having two each.

The recoveries under the new discharge guidelines remain very impressive with the current number set at 11,755 leaving only 3,976 as active cases.

Six people are currently in a critical condition with twenty-four others in a severe state out if the total active cases.

The Upper West Region is the only region out of the sixteen with no active cases. Savanah Region and North East Region have one case apiece.

Greater Accra and Ashanti regions still lead the pack with 2,206 and 1,128 active cases respectively.

Ghana recently overtook Algeria to assume the fourth position in Africa rankings of the coronavirus disease.

South Africa currently leads the chart with more than 118,000 confirmed cases. This is followed by Egypt with 61,000 and Nigeria at third position with a little over 22,000.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed in their latest update the number of Nigerians who have recovered from Coronavirus has surpassed 1,000.

The latest report released on Wednesday, May 13, shows 1,70 recoveries, a 111 rise in the previous release on May 12 which showed 959 patients discharged.

Although the country has recorded the highest number of recovered patients, it has also seen a massive increase it its positive cases.

As at Wednesday, May 13, Nigeria has 4,971 people infected with the deadly virus and had 164 deaths.

According to reports from the Ghana Health Service Directorate, Ghana coronavirus cases have recorded additional cases as total cases now stand at 1,671.

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye who made this revelation posited that the number of cases is a result of the ongoing directives to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Patrick Aboagye furthered stated that an additional 33 more patients have recovered.

Ghana’s recovery cases now stand at 188.
