There was an unfortunate incident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Wednesday, July 29 as the wing tip of two aircrafts collided.

The accident occurred when the wing tip of a Turkish Airlines aircraft whixh was taxiing out crashed with that of a Middle East Airlines plane which was also coming to park on the apron.

No casualties were reported and passengers on the Turkish Airlines flight were made to disembark and it was further learnt that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have been notified and would issue a statement on the incident.

A 28-year-old woman, Mrs Clara Vincent, has allegedly committed suicide after engaging in a quarrel with her husband.

It was gathered that the deceased, who lived on Ebewi Street at Agodo area of Lagos State with her husband, was rushed to the General Hospital, Isolo, Lagos where she was confirmed dead.

Reporting the case to the police, Clara’s cousin, Mr Lawrence John, said the family suspected foul play, alleging that the husband had a hand in his wife’s who is said to have died after drinking sniper.

He said, “My cousin, Clara, was said to have taken her own life after drinking sniper. She was rushed to the General hospital, at Isolo, where she died.

“We were surprised that the husband had packed up the body and ready to take her to his hometown in Umuezeala in Imo State for burial without the knowledge of her family members. We suspect that the husband killed her based on the misunderstanding they had in previous times.”

The husband was in police custody for interrogation.

John added, “Her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy. The husband has been arrested by the police and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, for further investigation.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana said, “I am aware of the case and I can tell you that investigation is ongoing while we await the result of the autopsy.”

Three people have been confirmed dead after a building they were sleeping in collapsed early this morning. The building which had been marked for demolition was located at Number 20 Freeman Street, Lagos Island.

Earlier in the day, a four year old boy was pulled out dead. Two more bodies have since been retrieved from the rubbles.

Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) managing director, Olufemi Oke Osanyintolu revealed that nine people have been pulled out alive while efforts are been made to reach more survivors.

The Lagos state government has allayed fears of residents of Anthony Village who got alarmed at the sight of some mysterious foamy substance in their environs yesterday, July 8, 2020.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state, Gboyega Akosile, the foamy substance was as a result of a blanketing process carried out by the Lagos state Fire Service.

The blanketing process was to prevent further accident from occurring after a container with Black oil fell around the area.

Situation Report: Vehicular incident around Anthony Village, Lagos. The attention of the agency has been drawn to videos circulating concerning some streets in Anthony Village.

Earlier today, there was a vehicular incident involving a lone articulated truck with registration number AAA 235-XW conveying a loaded double 20ft container.

It appeared to have lost control while in motion resulting in the obstruction of vehicular movement on the main carriage way.

Blanketing of the entire scene of incident was carried out by the Lagos State Fire service as a result of the content leakage from the container (Black oil) to prevent any secondary incident.

The reaction from this blanketing is what has led to the appearance of “snow/foam” in the aforementioned area. A full scale operation comprising LASEPA, LASEMA, LASTMA ,LAGOS FIRE SERVICE and NIGERIA POLICE have retrieved the container and cordoned it off the street.

We regret the inconvenience caused by the operation and are working to prevent secondary damage and to mitigate any further environmental challenges caused by the initial spill and the clean up operation.

That being said, we can confirm that no residents are trapped in their homes and plead for all affected persons to exercise patience and due caution.
