An unnamed Nigerian man has suffered a fracture of the penis while engaging in rigorous sex with his partner in a hotel.

His predicament came to light on social media after a Nigerian tweep, @OlumideAdeuyi shared photos of the man’s fractured manhood on twitter.

Accompanying the photos was a brief description of how this accident happened. He wrote;

“It happened around 5am sunday AM in a nearby hotel. D guy ws pounding away vigorously. In a bid 2 give d hardest and strongest thrust from a little distance outside the box, he crashed his penis on the mons pubis. The next thing he heard was a sound kam , the penis was bent”

Penile fracture is a rupture of one or both of the tunica albuginea, the fibrous coverings that envelop the penis’s corpora cavernosa. It is caused by rapid blunt force to an erect penis, usually during vaginal intercourse, or aggressive masturbation.

It is a medical emergency, and emergency surgical repair is the usual treatment. Delay in seeking treatment increases the complication rate. Non-surgical approaches result in 10–50% complication rates including erectile dysfunction, permanent penile curvature, damage to the urethra and pain during sexual intercourse, while operatively treated patients experience an 11% complication rate.
