A University of Ghana research to determine the serum vitamin A and nutritional status of children fed with gari and beans stew has found it can improve stunting among children.

The research which was carried out over a 6 month period, collected information on socio-demographics and vitamin A-rich foods in the Kodzobi community located in the Adaklu-Anyigbe district in the Volta Region of Ghana.

About 142 school children aged 6 to 12 years were studied for the research. After taking the children’s information, the chemical composition of the gari and beans stew was assessed before the children were fed with it and data were collected before and after that.

The research found that vitamin A deficiency (VAD) was common among the children. However, the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency among the children reduced from 95.1% to 77.5% after they were fed with the gari and beans stew 3 times a week.

According to the research finding: “the improvement in stunting among the participants may be attributed largely to the gari and beans stew they were fed.

The combination of gari and beans and fat was a potent tool in generating the required nutrients for growth.

The research, therefore, concluded among others that consumption of gari and beans stew prepared with red palm oil three times per week is recommended among children to improve vitamin A status.

In to a post by instablog.naija which revealed the results of the study on Instagram, men who stare are breasts often have low blood pressure and lower rates of heart disease. The popular blog posted the following:

“The study, which was carried out over a period of five years, involved 500 men, half of whom were instructed to stare at women’s breasts in a lustful manner for no less than 10 minutes every day. The other half were instructed to abstain from doing such.

It concluded that men who stared at breasts, more often, showed lower rates of heart problems, slower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure, all of which enable a healthy living and long life.

The study said men should stare at breasts for 10 minutes a day to improve the wellness of their hearts and live longer. “Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well-endowed female everyday is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out,” the study revealed.

When the two groups of men were tested, men that stared at breasts daily had lower blood pressure, slower resting pulse rates, as well as fewer instances of coronary artery disease. “Sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation. Gazing at breasts makes men healthier and engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of stroke and heart attack by half,” said Weatherby. “We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life for four to five years.’’

The research however does not state whether the effects of staring at breasts applies to women as well.

Orgasms were once vitally important to trigger ovulation – when the female releases an egg – during the sexual act.

In many animals, such as rabbits, ferrets, cats and camels this is still the case, as ovulation happens during sex.

The researchers from Yale University said: ‘The existence of female orgasm is intriguing for two reasons: On the one hand, female orgasm is not necessary for female reproductive success, and on the other hand, this neuro-endocrine reflex is too complex to be an evolutionary accident’.

A new study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology posits there’s a good chance you can tell if someone is rich or poor just by looking at them.

In general, people with money tend to live happier, less anxious lives compared to those struggling to make ends meet. The researchers demonstrated “that these well-being differences are actually reflected in people’s faces.”

“People are not really aware of what cues they are using when they make those judgments,” the researchers said. “If you ask them why, they don’t know. They are not aware of how they are doing this.”

When the researchers showed some students photos of people looking visibly happy, they could not discern socioeconomic status any better than chance. The expressions needed to be neutral for the subtle cues to have an effect.

“Over time, your face comes to permanently reflect and reveal your experiences. Even when we think we’re not expressing something, relics of those emotions are still there.”

Finally, to show how these kinds of first impressions could come into play in the real world, the researchers again asked some students to decide who in the photos would be most likely to land a job as an accountant. More often than not, they went with people from the upper class.

“Face-based perceptions of social class may have important downstream consequences,” they concluded.
