Two sisters from New York happened to have given birth the same day their father was set to mark his 70^th birthday.

The pleasant coincidence transpired on July 3rd at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, when Simone Cumberbatch had her scheduled cesarean section. Later that same day, her younger sister Shari unexpectedly went into labour and was brought into the center as well.

“At first I was shocked. I said, ‘Wow this is really happening?'” Simone, a mom of two, told “Good Morning America.” “When I realized it was real, I said, ‘This is going to be a good thing.'”

Simone Cumberbatch gave birth to a girl and named her Liberty, at 5:30 p.m. Shari Cumberbatch had been induced and also went into labour earlier than doctors expected. Both sisters are from Queens and have always shared the same obstetrician, Dr. Jay Seraji, so Shari’s labor postponed her sister’s C-section, the hospital told reporters.

Although both sisters weren’t due to give birth until mid-July. The senior most Simone Cumberbatch chose July 3 to have her C-section so her father could share a birthday with his grandchild, she explained.

Both sisters have since been pleased by the happy accident.
