Mr. Adesina Ogunlana, a lawyer for the Lekki toll gate shooting victims has insisted that the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu must appear before the judicial panel that is investigating the happenings on the night.

The military when they appeared before the panel admitted that they were invited by governor, Sanwo-Olu to come to the Lekki toll gate to restore calm.

This was in sharp contrast with what the governor had earlier told media men. In an interview with Journalist, Babajide Sanwo-Olu denied the presence of military men at the Lekki toll gate after they were accused of beign responsible for the shooting incident.

The lawyer for the victims of the protest in an interview with the Punch, expressed his desire to have the governor appear before the panel to answer questions.

He told the Punch: “Of course, that is taken. That person (Sanwo-Olu) will have to come; he’s a factor and he will come. He says he believes in the rule of law, his Attorney General, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), has come to appear before that panel to just make a short speech and to affirm that the Lagos State Government is indeed committed to unraveling the truth about what happened at Lekki on that day; and the military has mentioned him, so, he is a factor.”

The governor of the Lagos State, Babjide Sanwo Olu has apologized for yesterday’s shooting incident that involved the military and harmless protesters at the Lekki toll gate.

The governor whose actions and inactions led to the death of dozens of innocent civilians who gathered at the Lekki toll gate to protest took to Instagram to render an apology to the Nigerian youth and especially families that lost their relatives.

The government imposed a 24-hour curfew on the State yesterday and sent out Soldiers on the streets to enforce the curfew.

The soldiers fired at the protesters who were around the Lekki toll gate, killing dozens and leaving hundreds with life threatening injuries.

It was reported that, government hospitals turned away protesters who were shot during the protest.

Sanwo Olu has now apologized via his Instagram page today for his actions. Below are his words.

“Yesterday’s events were no doubt some of the darkest gradients of our history as a State and as a people. As you are aware, I have been engaging the #EndSARS protesters since the protests started.

There are no excuses for the unfortunate incident that took place last night, and as the Governor, I apologize for every action and inaction.

I would like you to know that I am for you, I am with you, and I understand that indeed you’re not happy with the turn of events last night.

I want to once again, and passionately from the depth of my heart appeal to our teeming youths, to our protesters that you should please give peace a chance.
There have been several reported cases of arson, and of destruction of properties this morning.

We want to plead with parents, we want to appeal to guardians, I want to appeal to our citizens, especially our youths. I feel the pain, and I want to say once again that as your Governor, I will continue to ensure that every life does matter.”

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has visited the family of Mr Iloamauzor who was killed during the #EndSARS protest in Surulere on Monday, October 12.

The deceased was a spectator during the Monday’s protest in Surulere when police opened fire at the protesters. Mr. Iloamauzor was hit by one of the bullets and died at the spot.

The governor commiserated with widow Mrs. Ngozi Illiamauzor and the entire family.

He promised to take care of the widow so that life can be comfortable for her. He revealed that he was teary when he visited the family.

He wrote on his Twitter handle: ”There are no words I could have said to Mrs Ngozi Iloamauzor today that can make up for her loss, but as governor, I had to take responsibility. As a human being, I was close to tears but my words to her were of strength and self care. We will work to provide justice for her.

As a state, we will also support and hopefully make her life easier. The state Attorney General, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN joined me for the visit and he will be providing me regular updates on the case.”
