Nigerian midfielder, John Ogu has apologized for inciting his colleagues to boycott the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in the wake of the Lekki toll gate shooting.

The midfielder who was reacting to the October 20 Lekki toll gate massacre questioned why a person should represent the country that has no regard for the lives of the youth.

“What is the point in representing the country if this is what the politicians, the people we’re representing, can do to us? I feel like this is the best thing to do right now until they get back to their senses and listen to us. We want a good government, the police brutality to stop, we want the SARS to stop, we want the killings to stop, we want good laws, we want job opportunities. It’s just crazy.

“I believe most of my colleagues understand where I am coming from, I wish we can do this. There are games coming up and if we boycott these games I’m sure they will know we’ve made a statement.

“I haven’t really spoken to any of my team-mates about this. They feel for the people here, their loved ones, those that have died. I’m sure the players are aware.” he said.

He has however released a statement today where he apologized for his comment noting that he made the comments out of anger when the issue was still fresh.

David Nwachukwu, the personal assistant to Nigerian-born Leicester City player, Kelechi Iheanacho on Saturday died in a ghastly motor accident, according to Punch.

It was gathered that David was said to be the Super Eagles player’s closest confidant.

Nwachukwu, who hailed from Ohaji/Egbema area of Imo State, the same area with the footballer was in a pathfinder jeep when the deadly accident occurred.

An eyewitness told TheSite News that the incident happened beside Alvana modern secondary school, located along Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

He was riding alone and was said to be on high speed when the crash occurred.

A source said that the deceased headed into a stationary articulated vehicle and died on the spot.

His remains have since been deposited in a morgue.

His neighbours, Paulcy Iwuala and Abuoma Ozurigbo, confirmed his death.

Ozurigbo said “What a black Saturday. Just yesterday at our Estate we (David Nwachukwu and him) discussed how we were going to fly together to Abuja soon because your friend, Kelechi Iheanacho, is coming back.
