Lyon’s midfielder, Thiago Mendes and his family are currently at the receiving end of death threats following his tackle on Neymar that left the attacker injured.

During a Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, December 13, the two Brazilians were involved in a tackle that left Neymar with an ankle injury.

He was stretchered off the pitch amidst wailing and tears. PSG subsequently lost the match by a lone goal.

Thiago Mendes and his family are reported to have been receiving death threats from anonymous individuals on social media and on text.

His wife confirmed the development to CNews and even shared one of the messages with the media house.

The message warned that, if anything happens to Neymar from that tackle, her boyfriend (Thiago Mendes) will pay with his life.

She also disclosed that the family has sought the protection of police personnels in their house.

Meanwhile, Mendes apologized on social media to the attacker and wished him well.

He wrote: “Like the Brazilian people, I also admire his football and I hope that nothing serious has happened. May he recover quickly and bring joy to the fan. Here again is my sincere apologies”
