The Ugandan authorities have began a manhunt to rearrest over 200 escaped prisoners who stole weapons and broke out of jail to the north-eastern part of the country.

The jailbreak occurred near the army barracks in the district of Moroto in Northeast Uganda on Wednesday afternoon, September 16.

Prison’s commissioner of Uganda, Mr Johnson Byabashaija told a reporter on Thursday September 17, that “The prisoners seized guns from the armoury at a government prison in Moroto, about 460km from Kampala, before dashing for the cover of nearby mountains.”

He then confirmed the number of runaway prisoners saying, “About 215 inmates are still on the run. Uganda’s prison service, working with the police and the army with support from ground and air assets, have been deployed to rearrest the inmates,”

Byabashaija however assured that every prisoner will be captured but in the meantime, the citizens should stay calm. “There is concern that some guns are in the wrong hands, but these will be recaptured. We have enough forces on the ground and helicopters to track them. The public is advised to stay calm.”

23-year-old man was arrested on Monday September 14 trying to deliver a freshly cut head of a child to the Office of the Speaker at the Uganda Parliament.

The gift, was neatly wrapped and reportedly meant for the Speaker, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga’s office. He was apprehended at the gates of the parliament by security.

The man’s who’s identity is yet to be known was detained at the parliament police office before carrying him away. When quizzed why he did such thing, the young man calmly informed them that it is a gift to the speaker.

It has not been established if he was sent by someone to make that delivery or if he is mentally unstable. Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, who also confirmed the incident, said that they are still investigating the incident.

75- Year Old Ugandan President, Yoweri K Museveni has gone live on television to demonstrate to his people how to exercise indoors during coronavirus lockdown.

H.E Museveni had previously warned residents of Uganda to cease trooping out to train amid the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

He promised to teach how to exercise at the comfort of your homes without stepping out to violate the lockdown rule or endanger yourself and he has delivered on the promise.

“Yesterday, I discouraged people who have been jogging in groups, exposing themselves to risk amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. You do not have to go outdoors to exercise. Here is my demonstration of how you can exercise indoors and stay safe.” he wrote in addition to a video of him working out.

As Fit as he is, H.E Yoweri K Museveni did over 40 push ups and jogged around his office just to teach his people an easy home workout routine.

A military recruitment that took place yesterday in Uganda turned dramatic after a man ran mad. The man who attended the exercise in a bid to join the army ran mad after running for 5 kilometers.

 The man, a certain Patrick Olet surprised recruiters and other candidates when he went mad. Despite being visibly strong and healthy, he completely changed after the run. He was seen ranting, kicking, shouting, throwing hands and staggering off the track.

The dramatic incident happened on Friday January 3rd, at old Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira town. The recruiters were forced to stop the recruitment process and attend to Patrick before continuing with the exercise.

The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson Caeser Olweny confirmed the dramatic incident. He reported that Olet was rushed to hospital for further examination.

“He had come to try his luck but he could not make it to the final stage. We rushed him to the hospital together with other candidates who collapsed because we wanted to save their lives,” said Olweny.

The recruitment saw over 2000 candidates showing up for the recruitment. Initial reports however indicated that only 83 recruits were successful.
