A teenager has been arrested for staging his own kidnapping. He confessed to planning with his friends in order to fleece his father of 500,000 naira ($1,400) as ransom.
The incident happened in the central Nigerian city of Jos in Plateau State.
Many suspects were arrested to help in the investigation. However, the police traced the alleged kidnapper’s number to the victim’s friend. Upon his apprehension, the suspect divulged the whole plan.
He then led the police to the victim’s hide-out. The victim-cum-suspect, when interrogated, admitted to the crime.
He said he wanted to buy some new clothes and shoes to celebrate his impending graduation as an electrical fitting apprentice.
