Charles Sirleaf, son of former Liberian president, Allen Johnson Sirleaf has pleaded innocent to corruption charges.
The former deputy governor of Liberia’s Central Bank was hauled to court together with other former staff on corruption charges.
The arrested officials were charged with money laundering and the disappearance of freshly printed Liberian dollar notes worth more than $100m. The missing money was illegally printed thus exceeding the proposed amount contracted to be printed.
Liberian president, George Weah has pledged to clamp down on corruption in Liberia, one of the poorest countries in Africa. While many have welcomed the fight, many opponents view it as political tool to harass political opponents.
