It’s day 6 of the 2019 US open tennis championship and the last grand slam tournament of the year which takes place in New York has already seen some thrilling and exciting matches as well as shock exit of some top seeds from both the men’s and women’s side of the game.

Simona Halep who won the 2019 Wimbledon championship after beating Serena Williams suffered a shock defeat to Taylor Townsend in her second-round match. Top seeds from the men’s side, Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered staggering defeats on their 1st round of matches whereas Rafael Nadal is, as usual, powering his way through with his strong forehand shots and topspin on the ball.

US Open 2019

In action tonight are the sensational fifteen-year-old American, Coco Gauff who blew tennis fans away with her scintillating performance at the 2019 Wimbledon championship. For her reward of qualifying to the third round, she faces the world No. 1 Naomi Osaka in what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter as the 21-year-old Japanese is also the defending Champion.

On the men’s side, it was just another day in the office on Friday for the World No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic as he beat Denis Kudla in a straight-set (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) despite his shoulder injury.

Roger Federer, the 20 times grand slam champion had earlier on thrashed Britain’s Dan Evans also in a straight-set encounter to book his place in the round 16 of the 2019 US Open.

Federer is undoubted, regarded as the greatest tennis player of all time and at 37 he is still running and playing on the court as though he’s a player in his mid-twenties.  Non-wonder he’s still tipped as one of the favourites to win the ultimate price at Flushing Meadows this year.
