Shame; Kiambu Law Courts Lacks Proper Lavatories For Magistrates and Staff

Published

on

This is a fact. Kiambu Law courts has only one toilet. The loo is shared among six female and male magistrates and the director of human resource management. The Judicial staff members are forced to queue to use the toilet . This makes them uncomfortable especially when other staff and members of the public spot them on the queue when the facility is full.

Furthermore , the sewage system of the staff toilet is faulty and keeps blocking. This makes the area foul smelling.  Members of the public who visit  the courts also suffer from a lavatory issue. There is only a single pit latrine for use with one male toilet, a urinal and another for female clients. There is no sanitary facility for people living with disabilities. To make things worse, the toilets have no curtains making it embarrassing to relieve yourself.

A letter written by the station head Patriciah Gichohi and dated February 5, 2018 requested for funds to carry out renovations and new constructions. According to reports, Kiambu law courts received a report from NEMA dated May 26, 2017 concerning the state of affairs at the institution. In the report, the director made recommendations that have not yet been implemented today. The court leadership has appealed to Judiciary to look into the issues so that the sanitation condition at the courts is fixed once and for all.
