10 African Stars Who Died At The Peak Of Their Careers – 5 By Road Accidents

Death is not an occurrence that can be thwarted, not by wealth, fame or the morality compass of a being. Every living being will eventually exit their vessels and disappear into oblivion. Though the pain death brings can claw at the heart and incapacitate us with grief, we have to move on in boldness and wait till we pay our debt. Over the years Africa has lost a lot of great stars, and here is a list of those who died at the peak of their careers, and who we still miss.

Muna Obiekwe: The multi-talented Nigerian actor died January 2015, aged 36 after battling with kidney disease. He was one of the busiest Nollywood actors, with over 60 movies to his name. He was also a cousin to actor Yul Edochie.


Kwame Owusu-Ansah; The soft-spoken Ghanaian actor died May 2, 2008 from a fatal car accident on the Tema Motorway. He was known to have filmed more than 50 movies, and was a radio broadcaster among other things before venturing into acting.

Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng: Singer Ebony’s death has been shrouded in mystery to this day. She died alongside her bestfriend and one soldier on February 8, 2018 at the age of 21. The singer was at the peak of her career and was one of the best singers in the country at the time of her death. She won VGMA artist of the year posthumously.

Tebongo Madingoane: The pop star was the third band member of the Mafikizolo group in South Africa. He died October 27, 2009 aged 32, when he was shot dead in a road rage incident. The popular Khona song by Mafikizolo was reportedly created in his memory.

Da Grin: Oladapo Olaitan also known as Dagrin was a popular Nigerian rapper who infused Yoruba, English and Pidgin into his style of rap. He could be seen as the modern day Phyno. Dagrin died 22 April, 2010 after being involved in a fatal car accident.

Suzzy Williams: The Ghanaian actress died 8 September, 2005 aged 23, after a motor accident on the main La-Teshie Nungua Highway. Suzzy Williams starred in over 20 movies, and was also featured in music videos.

Vybrant Faya: The Ghanaian dancehall act rose to fame after releasing his smash hit Mampi in 2014. He died two years later when a motor bike knocked him down as he crossing the street to enter the Accra Mall. He was 29 years.

Terry Bonchaka: Terrence Nii Okang Mensah was a Ghanaian hiplife artist who introduced the Pulele dance. He died in a car accident on October 30, 2003 aged 21 when he was returning from a Hall performance at the University of Ghana.

Goldie: The Nigerian singer was called Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey, and was a Big Brother Africa star. She died 14 February 2013, of severe headache after returning from the 2013 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Goldie was 31.

Kefee: Kefee Obareki was a Nigerian gospel singer, and was also termed as the ‘Branama Queen’. She died in the US after falling into a deep coma. Her most popular songs are Branama and Kokoroko. Keffe was 34.
